Hereditary Herbals (Pvt) Ltd is a distinguished Ayurvedic healthcare company founded by Dr. R.V.D.R.M.M. Ihthisham, under the guidance and mentorship of his father, Dr. Raja Vaidyasekara Duwegoda Ranasinghe Mudiyanselage M.M.M. Irshard.

The foundation of Hereditary Herbals is built upon a remarkable family legacy that spans 14 generations of Ayurvedic physicians. The family traces its lineage to a Royal Physician who served King Rajasinghe I of the Kingdom of Seethawaka in present-day Avissawella, Sri Lanka, preserving centuries of traditional Ayurvedic knowledge and healing practices through each successive generation.

Today, Dr. M.M.M. Irshard proudly continues this extraordinary heritage as the 14th-generation Ayurvedic physician, carrying forward the wisdom, formulations, and therapeutic traditions entrusted to his family over hundreds of years. With more than 40 years of personal experience in the practice of Ayurveda, he has dedicated his life to advancing natural healthcare while remaining faithful to the authenticity of traditional Ayurvedic principles.

The arrival of Dr. M.M.M. Irshard’s ancestors in Avissawella is a remarkable story that has been passed down through generations. According to family tradition, during the reign of King Rajasinghe II of the Kingdom of Seethawaka, the queen was suffering from an illness that many renowned physicians had been unable to cure.

Before entrusting the physician with her treatment, the king decided to test his diagnostic abilities. A thread was first tied to the leg of a table, which the physician correctly identified as being connected to a lifeless object. The thread was then tied to the leg of a cat, and he accurately recognised it as belonging to a living creature. Finally, when the thread was tied to the queen’s wrist, he identified it as the pulse of a living person.

Impressed by his exceptional knowledge and skill, the king entrusted him with the queen’s care. After successfully restoring her health, the physician was honoured by the king and invited to settle with his family in Thalduwa, Avissawella. This marked the beginning of a distinguished Ayurvedic lineage that has continued uninterrupted for fourteen generations.
